Usually steaks "sweat" a lot, you should use a paper towel and dry the meat wiping all moisture out of the steak.
To check if the pan reached the right temperature simply pour some drops of water. they should not evaporate istantaneously but float.
You should now soak the steak in oil.
That's easy, just remember to seal every side of the steak and don't overcook it, otherwise you'll be getting a well done steal. That is something nobody wants.
Now that the steak is ready you can season it with salt and pepper.
If you are planning on serving the steak don't cut it as soon as you take it out of the fire, wait a couple of minutes otherwise you'll lose all of your juices.
